Reflection: This artifact is a Project Based Learning lesson where the student are creating and maintaining a newspaper while learning elements of writing and the dynamics of newspaper creation. The students assume the roles of people, who contribute to production of newspapers according to their abilities, and are challenge to critically solve and perform the tasks that are required to create this project. I think the project is exceptional because it allows for so many skills to be taught (practical, social, economical, writing, reading, and math). This artifact shows evidence of standard four: Multiple Instructional Strategies because it uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage student’s development of critical thinking, problem solving, and performance skills.

Reflection: This artifact is a 5-E lesson plan for Mathematics. This lesson has the children go beyond classroom application to apply time conversion and division. They have to use higher order thinking ad show understanding of both time and division concepts. The students use the newspaper to find ideal careers and figure out the salary they would make in a year, month, week, and day, this lesson is excellent for students who have fully grasped the concepts of division and time, but need further practice. This artifact shows evidence for standard four: Multiple Instructional Strategies because it uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage problem solving.

Reflection: This artifact is a challenge book from Houghton Mifflin series. The purpose of this book is to challenge the students’ thinking after reading a story. The challenges include items such as reading a poem and writing a response to the poem using their own thoughts. Many of the items in the challenge book are supplementary items to the story in the students’ Houghton Mifflin reading books. These items are particularly effective when students are done with assigned class work and need additional work. I would use this in my classroom to “challenge” the students to think further than the obvious. This artifact is evidence for standard four: Multiple Instructional Strategies because it uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage critical thinking skills.
