Conduct Reports

 Reflection: This artifact is aNotification of Misconduct or Failure to Follow School Rules and Policies. During my student observation period I noticed that my cooperating teacher used these very often. She would record any misbehavior, and make 3 copies of the report one for her file, one for the student’s parent to sign, and one for the principal. This conduct report I think was a great idea, but would have shown better results if there wer                                     e more consequences attached other telling the parent. These consequences would make this piece of classroom management more effective. This artifact shows evidence to standard five: Motivation and Management because it creates a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction.

 

Action Research: Engaging African American Males to Increase Reading Comprehension

 Reflection: This artifact is an action research project dealing with African American male reading achievement. The purpose of this study is to increase reading comprehension between African American males through an intervention of engagement. It is hypothesized that African American engagement in reading will increase when reading materials relevant to their personal experience are used in reading comprehension instruction; in turn the reading comprehension levels of African American student will increase. This artifact shows evidence for standard five: Motivation and Management because the teacher encourages an understanding of individual to create a learning environment that encourages active engagement in learning.

 

 Marble Jar

 Reflection: This artifact is an incentive or reward system used within my cooperating classroom. Usually the first couple of months this artifact will serve as an excellent method of classroom management. My cooperating teacher utilizes this artifact by placing a marble in the jar when students are on task. She takes away a marble when the students are not on task. I think this is effective and I will utilize it within my own classroom; however, I think I will be more consistent with the jar through-out the year so it remains an effective method of classroom management. This artifact show evidence for INTASC standard five: Motivation and Management because it creates an environment that encourages positive social interaction.

 

Classroom Procedures

 Reflection: This artifact is an example of non-verbal communication which is an excellent way to manage a classroom. My cooperating teacher utilizes these three signal to avoid the many “can I go to the bathrooms”; “can I get a drink of waters”; and “can I sharpen my pencils” through out the day. It is very effective, and the student abides by these forms of communication because she has been reinforcing these rules without any leniency. I plan to utilize this same method in my class in the same manner that my cooperating teacher does. This artifact shows evidence for standard five: Motivation and Management because it encourages positive social interaction.

 

Cooperative Activities

 Reflection: This artifact is the method used to perform cooperative activities in the classroom. My cooperating teacher has the students split into four groups with diverse learning ability students in each group. They have assigned tables, group names, and team leaders. When working in these groups the students are motivated by each other because the advanced students are helping the below basic students. This allows the students to learn by teaching and learn by seeing others to well. This artifact shows evidence for standard five: Motivation and Management because it creates and environment that encourages positives social interactions, active engagement in learning, and self motivation.
